GETTING TO KNOW YOU

Grade: K-2
Age: 4-6


Submitted by Linda J. DiPasquale-Morello, a teacher at John C. Milanesi School in Buena, NJ.

Objectives:

Students will be able to learn to respect one another for their likenesses and differences.

What You Need:

What You Do:

  1. Read a wonderful story to them, like I Like Me, discuss self-esteem, likenesses, differences; what makes us special, what we like to do etc...

  2. Have children create a portrait of themselves looking into mirrors for fine details, play music while they are creating their images; when completed, collect and save for Back to School Night to use with parents. Parents will take their child's image and using only the letters of their child's name write words that describe their child:

This activity can be used as an ice breaker to get to know your students and parents.

Linda J. DiPasquale-Morello has taught for thirty years, mainly in kindergarten. She has he BA in Liberal Arts with an Elementary Teaching Certificate; an MA in Elementary Teaching with an Early Childhood Teaching Certificate and has just received her NJ State Supervisor's Certificate for K-12.
