POP BOTTLE FLOWERS

Grade: K-2
Age: 4-6

Submitted by: Mary Beth Knippel, a teacher at Son Shine Preschool, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.

Objectives:

To make EASY flowers with young children.

What You Need:

  • Paint Shirt
  • Green Crayon
  • Orange Construction Paper (Copy of flower pot on it to cut out)
  • Scissors
  • Glue Stick
  • 1 piece of Lg. Construction Paper (Background)
  • A variety of Lg. and small plastic pop bottles.
  • Paint
  • Lg. round paint brush

What You Do:

  1. First cut out the picture of the flower pot from the orange construction paper.

  2. Glue orange pot onto the Lg. piece of construction paper

  3. Use green crayon and make stems and leaves coming out of pot.

  4. Put on paint shirt

  5. Take a pop bottle and dip the bottom end of the bottle into the paint.

  6. Press the bottle at the top of the green stems. Voila... You have made instant flower petals!

  7. Finish them off by taking a Lg. paint brush and adding yellow dots to the middle of the petals.

Additional Ideas

Tami Hoffman from Swift Current, Sask. says, "We cut out pictures of our family and pasted them in the center of the flowers to personalize this idea. We also decorated the pot with sparkles and buttons."
