3D ORNAMENTS
Grade: 4-6
Age: 8-12
Submitted by: Glenn Allan, a teacher at Lake Munmorah Public School in Australia.
Objectives:
To make a Christmas decoration whilst developing an understanding of symmetry.
What You Need:
- Paper - either white or paper of different colors
- Scissors
- Glue
- Thread
What You Do:
- Fold your piece of paper along a line of symmetry.
- On one side of the fold draw a half a Christmas shape. e.g. a Christmas Tree, Angel, Star, Santa, Bell etc. (any object that is symmetrical)
- Trace the pattern onto the other half of the paper so that the design is perfectly symmetrical.
- Color or decorate the design and cut it out.
- Repeat this process so that you have at least 3 identical shapes (the older children should be able to handle several shapes).
- Glue all these shapes back to back
- Old Christmas cards could be used for this
