This art activity is all about design! Students can learn to appreciate that anything is a surface when it comes to creating art!
What You Need:
Gallon paint can with lid (new, from hardware store)
Orange or black spray paint (or acrylic paint)
Glue, glue gun and sticks, scissors
Various craft supplies and Halloween supplies ~ for example: ribbons, fabric, glitter, yarns, raffia, buttons, feathers, eyes, spiders, skeletons, etc.
What You Do:
Paint the can either orange or black. If you spray paint the can, do it outside or in a well ventilated area. For younger students, an adult should perform this step. Younger students can paint the can with acrylic paint instead (less toxic).
Then, students can decorate the cans using a variety of materials (see photos for inspiration).
The completed art can be used as an autumn sculpture or even a trick and treat container!
Halloween Fun: Great Things to Make and Do
by Abigail Willis Halloween will certainly be fun when children design their own jack-o'-lanterns, make frightening masks, build hanging skeletons, play gruesome games, bake spider (or bat) cakes, and read scary poems aloud.
