Clothespeg Dragonfly Sculpture

Clothespeg Dragonfly Sculpture
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Create dragonflies using wooden clothes pegs, paint (or markers) and paper.

By Andrea Mulder-Slater

What You Need:

  • Wooden clothes pegs (one per dragonfly)
  • Paint (watercolors, tempera or acrylic) or magic markers
  • Construction paper and scissors or pre-cut foam pieces
  • Glue
  • Optional: wooden skewer sticks and hot glue
  • Optional embellishments: chenille stems (pipe cleaners), raffia, beads, googly eyes

What You Do:

  1. Give each student a wooden clothes peg.
  2. Using paint (whichever kind you have on hand), students can paint their clothes pegs. Watercolor works well and is easy to clean up. Magic markers work quite well for younger students.
  3. Once dry, children can glue paper (or foam) wings onto their dragonfly. They can also add raffia, chenille stems, googly eyes or other embellishments.
  4. Optional: teacher can glue a skewer stick to the clothes peg first (using hot glue) so it can be placed in a flower pot or outside in the garden.
